My Afrika Muse

Medium: Color Pencil on Illustration Board
Size: 20 x 30 Inches
Date: May 2008

Another piece that is a gift, rather than a commission, this was for my wife to celebrate our first year anniversay as husband and wife. Behind her, of course is the map of Africa with the Ethiopian/Rastafarian colors. The map is on top of the Black Liberation Colors. On both sides of my wife are many symbols, ranging from Kemetic (Egyptian to westernized students), Islamic, Ethiopian, and West African influence.

Scars

This was a painting from a poem I had once written that was dedicated to victims of rape and domestic violence.

The Crow

Medium: White Prisma Pencil on Black Paper
Size: 9 x 12 Inches
Date: Summer 2005

Using the "Reverse" technique again. This was just me messing around, drawing a character from one of my favorite movies. ©Copyright James O'Barr

Mother's Day

Medium: Color Pencil on Illustration Board
Size: 9 x 12 Inches
Date: May 2006

This work symbolizes that the Black woman IS mother's day and that all human life comes from her. The stem from the lotus she is hold wraps around her arm and goes into her belly that is pregnant with the world. There are many symbols in this piece such as the Ahnk, Crecent Moon, Sankofa, the Lotus Blossom, and the Holy Cross. This could be a pre-requisite to My Afrika Muse.
