Afro Blue

Afro Blue

Medium: Acryclic on Canvas; White Prisma Color Pencil
Size: 18 x 24 Inches
Date: January 2009

This is part one in the series Afro Blue. The model of it was from a photography book of women of color that I purchased a few years back. I added the afro and changed up some of her features (so it wouldn't be infringing upon copyright). This piece of art is also featured in the documentary Natural Woman by Cindy Hurst.

Afro Blue II: Lizz Sang It Wright

Medium: Acryclic on Canvas; White Prisma Color Pencil
Size: 16 x 20 Inches
Date: January 2009

Part II is of Lizz Wright, the actual singer that inspired the series Afro Blue. About three years ago I had first heard the song, "Afro Blue" from her album Salt. Automatically artworks of Black people executed in blue hues emerged in my head. Three years later, it finally came into fruition.

Afro Blue III: Voyage to India

Part III of Afro Blue is of the beautiful Soul artist India.Arie. I subtitled this one Voyage to India because it was just that. I wasn't completely happy with the outcome of this one...but it has grown on me. But as India.Arie is one of my favorite music artists and just a beautiful woman to look at, she will definitely be part of many more art works to come
